SPRING,
Texas -- Oklahoma Baptist finished in 15th place in a loaded field during the two-day Southern Invite at the Cypresswood Golf Club in Spring, Texas. There were four, top-25 ranked (WGCA) schools competing among the field.
Number five Dallas Baptist University won the overall team title while No. 13 West Texas A&M and No. 18 Rogers State followed in second and third, respectively.
Sophomore
Morgan Simmons led the green and gold. She carded an 11-over par which was good for 37th place. That took place over the par 71 course on Monday after Tuesday's round was canceled due to weather. In the first round, Simmons bogeyed the first three holes before shooting par the next seven. She then secured three birdies between the 12th and 17th tee boxes en route to a 77 (+6).
On the next go-around, Simmons pared 11 of the 18 holes, added a birdie and finished plus-five (76).
OBU's next best finisher was
Gimena Errecart. She shot six-over par in round one before adding a stroke in round two. Her tally of 155 slotted her in 47th place. Rounding the Bison's top-three finishers was
Marta Romero Crespo. After shooting an 11-over par (82) in the opening round, the Madrid, Spain native was outstanding in round two. Crespo was one-under par through nine and then finished plus-four (75). That helped position the freshman in 56th place.
Furthermore,
Josefina Serres Scheffer came in 71st while
Sam Lehr followed six spots later.
The Bison's next tournament comes March 2-4 at the Diffee Ford Lincoln Invitational in Edmond at the Kickingbird Golf Club.
