PITTSBURG, Kan. – Oklahoma Baptist women's track and field members
Asia Foster,
Kaylen King,
Kimberly McKinney and
Sophia Strange etched their names in the OBU record book with a record-breaking distance medley relay performance this weekend.
Competing at Pittsburg State's 10th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic, that quartet posted a time of 11:41.45, breaking the previous record of 11:49.51 set back in 2015. Plus, it was an NCAA D2 Provisional mark and good for second place on Saturday.
Furthermore, the performance by King, Foster, McKinney and Strange is the 18th-best performance in D2 this season.
There was also another race of significance for the green and gold: the 4x400.
Mary McKey,
Delaney Riekert, McKinney and Foster dialed up another runner-up finish for OBU, crossing the finish line in 3:42.76. That, too, met NCAA standards and was a season-best performance.
Individually, Strange won the 3,000 with a meet-record and provisional time of 9:38.16. Plus,
Valerie Olson,
Jamora Horace and
Anisha Henderson earned top-three marks in a few events. In the 60 hurdles, Olson posted a provisional time of 8.55 which was good for third while Horace claimed runner-up honors in the high jump with another provisional mark of 1.75 meters. Finally, Henderson placed third win the long jump, reaching 5.82m which was good for another NCAA provisional.
Currently, the next meet for the Bison Women is the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., on March 13-15. Stay tuned for more info.
