EDMOND, Okla. – Bison Baseball starts of 0-2 on the season after dropping game two of the UCO Festival to Missouri-St. Louis.
Saturday morning saw the Bison open up the second day of action at the UCO Festival in Edmond. The green and gold made a better outing offensively than in the prior day of play but ended up with the same result at the conclusion of game two.
The Tritons took down OBU with a 14-4 final at the conclusion of eight innings.
The Bison were first to strike with two runs in the opening inning. The Tritons answered with three runs to start off the second inning. OBU responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second but those couple of runs were the last of the day for the green and gold.
The third and fourth innings saw four runs a-piece from UMSL. The final three runs were tallied in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings, closing out the day in favor of the Tritons.
Ryan Turbeville took the loss for the Bison with 3.0 innings on the bump, giving up 11 runs on seven hits. Turbeville totaled four strikeouts and one walk.
Bryant Thornton,
Nick Meyer and
Marcus Peters each made an appearance on the mound, all giving up a single run each. Thornton went 2.0 innings giving up one run, one hit, no walks and five strikeouts. Meyer also went 2.0 innings giving up two hits, one run, one walk and securing three strikeouts. Peters rounded out the efforts from the staff with 1.0 inning on the mound giving up one run and walking one.
Offensively,
Matt Marsic led the efforts for OBU with two hits in three at bats and one RBI.
DJ Van Atten and
Jacob Campbell also had a couple of hits while
Jayden Shafer and
Zane Bennett accounted for the other RBI's. Van Atten tallied two doubles with Campbell adding another. Marsic claimed the lone triple of the day.
Bennett and
Lucas Schaefer each closed out the day with a single stolen base.
Collectively, the Bison compiled six errors, ultimately burying OBU's comeback chances.
The green and gold look forward to redemption day on Monday with their final run in the UCO Festival. Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. will see the Bison take on Northeastern State with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
