Tigers Pull Away from Bison, Win 35-13

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Ouachita capitalized on timely defense and a strong ground game to hand Oklahoma Baptist a 35–13 loss on Saturday afternoon in Great American Conference play.

The Tigers (2–3, 2–3 GAC) built early momentum off a forced fumble and interception in the first quarter, converting both into points.

Lyric Tredwell opened the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run late in the first, and Chris Henley Jr. added a one-yard plunge early in the second to give Ouachita a 14–7 advantage.

After a Carter Lowry field goal brought Oklahoma Baptist within 14–10, quarterback Nate TenBarge connected with Carter McElhany on a 27-yard touchdown just before halftime, pushing the Tigers' lead to 21–10.

Before that McElhany touchdown, though, the Bison were threatening. In fact, TJ McMahon hit Damorrion Brown with a deep pass play into Ouachita territory, however, a fumble followed, and Ouachita was able to convert in the waning moments of the second stanza.

Henley's second rushing score, a three-yard dive midway through the third quarter, stretched the margin to 28–10. Lowry drilled another short field goal for the Bison (1–4, 1–4), but Ouachita's balanced offense sealed the result early in the fourth when TenBarge and McElhany hooked up again—this time for an 11-yard touchdown.

Oklahoma Baptist moved the ball effectively, finishing with 427 total yards to Ouachita's 407. McMahon completed 27 of 41 passes for 295 yards, while receiver Nick Harris hauled in seven receptions for 104 yards. Running back Deuce Wise led the Bison with 56 rushing yards and a touchdown.

For Ouachita, Henley rushed for 59 yards and two touchdowns, while Tredwell added 59 and one score. TenBarge was efficient, completing 12 of 17 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns, both to McElhany, who caught seven passes for 95 yards.

Next week, the Bison return home on Oct. 11 to face Arkansas-Monticello (2-3) at 2 p.m.
