PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Oklahoma Baptist women's track and field team turned in a great performance during Pittsburg State University's Rumble in the Jungle Invitational on Friday.
Powered by six, top-three performances, the Bison earned runner-up honors with 107 points. The host Gorillas won the invitational with 174 points.
OBU really shined in the 600-yard run courtesy of
Asia Foster,
Delaney Riekert and
Mary McKey. With a time of 1:23.05, Foster won the race while Riekert (1:25.16) and McKey (1:27.82) followed in second and fourth, respectively. For all three of these young women, their times were personal bests.
Riekert, McKey and Foster also teamed up with
Kimberly McKinney in the 4x400 relay for solid success. In that race, the group not only finished in second place, but they earned an NCAA Indoor Provisional time of 3:45.90.
McKinney also had a great day, winning the 800-meter run with a PR and provisional mark of 2:13.52. Plus,
Zoee Weaver earned second place crossing the finish line in 2:16.06.
There was also a provisional standard met by
Jamora Horace in the high jump. She set a new career-best with a jump of 1.73m (5-8.0). That was also good for second place.
The Bison's other runner-up placement was delivered by
Altyn Bartley. In the weight throw event, she reached 16.09m (52-9.0). Plus,
Jade Byrd followed her teammate in fourth with a throw of 15.67m (51-5.0).
Among the other top performances for the green and gold, senior
Sophia Strange claimed third in the one-mile run (4:58.92) while finishing fourth in the 3,000, crossing in 10:02.80.
Rounding out OBU's top performances,
Olivia Tate took fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.73) while
Valerie Olson earned the same placement in the 60-meter hurdles event (8.85). Olson's mark was also a career-best. Plus,
Bella Driver finished in fifth in the 60 hurdles with a PR of 8.98.
Next weekend, the Bison will be competing at two locations. OBU will attend the Washburn Open & Multis and Pitt State's Invitational on Feb. 1.
