SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist Women's Basketball maintained their spotless record at home with a hard-fought victory over the Ouachita Baptist Tigers Thursday night.
The green and gold protected a perfect home mark after defeating the Tigers from Ouachita Baptist. The Thursday night meeting saw a final 68-56 win for the Bison, moving the home team to a 7-2 conference mark and an 11-4 total overall.
In the opening frame, the Bison secured a 19-17 lead, but a big second quarter for the Tigers saw the ladies in purple put up 21 points to the green and gold's 12.
Ouachita Baptist held a 38-31 lead headed into the third quarter, but the home team came back ready to fight. In the third stanza, the Bison tallied 17 points. The beginning of the final quarter opened with an even 48-48 score. Oklahoma Baptist refused to lay down, earning their highest scoring quarter of the night to seal the deal with 20 points in the fourth, closing out the game, 68-56.
The Bison had a strong night from the three, going 14-30 to finish at 46.7% on the evening. Oklahoma Baptist totaled 32 bench points, 16 points in the paint and 16 points off turnovers. The nail-biting matchup consisted of seven lead changes and two ties.
Oklahoma Baptist totaled nine blocks, seven steals, 16 assists and 38 rebounds on the evening.
Mackenzie Crusoe found her groove with 21 points on the evening to lead the Bison. Crusoe went 8-16 from the field, 50% from the three and perfect from the line. The graduate student tallied six rebounds, five assists and one steal.
Katelyn Davis has become a standout player for the green and gold and tonight she maintained that reputation leading the defensive efforts with four blocks. Davis also added nine points for the Bison at 3-8 from the field, and 3-7 from the three.
Next up for the green and gold is a Saturday afternoon meeting with Henderson State. The Bison will face the Reddies with a tip off scheduled for 1 p.m. in Noble Complex.
