TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State scored in the 66th minute and held off a final-second corner kick from Oklahoma Baptist to secure victory on Wednesday. The 1-0 result kept NSU's early-season record unblemished (3-0) while the Bison slipped to 0-2.
OBU's
Alanna Bloomingdale provided the team's only first-half shot which came at 4:28 and was saved by NSU's Rebecca Partyka.
Following that attempt from one of OBU's seniors, the host RiverHawks clamped down on the green and gold. In fact, NSU didn't allow another shot attempt for 45 minutes of action. At the 50th minute,
Hali White provided the Bison's next shot, which resulted in another save by Partyka.
The Bison got one more attempt off a bit later from
Michaela White at 64:12 before NSU scored the match's lone goal. At 65:42, Sydney Taylor's first goal of 2024 found twine and broke the scoreless tie.
Down the stretch, in the final 15 minutes of action,
Annabelle Joski provided another attempt for the Bison before a corner kick with 28 seconds remaining. The Bison couldn't find that equalizer, though, and ended up falling.
In goal, freshman
Claire Stoermer notched three saves for the second consecutive match. Five different players offensively took shots for OBU. By the end of the contest, NSU held a 12-5 advantage in attempts.
OBU's next match comes on Saturday, Sept. 14 at noon against Midwestern State.
