SHAWNEE – On Tuesday afternoon, former Oklahoma Baptist track and field head coach Ford Mastin was announced as a 2024 inductee into the USTFCCCA Coaches of Hall of Fame.
Mastin is part of a six-member 2024 induction class that includes Dave Cianelli (Cal Poly, SMU, Virginia Tech); Frank Gramarosso (North Central – Ill.); Ron Helmer (Georgetown, Indiana); Jud Logan (Ashland); and Connie Price-Smith (Southern Illinois, Ole Miss).
Started in 1995, the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame recognizes coaches who have brought great distinction to themselves, to their institutions, and to the sports of cross country and track and field.
Mastin led the Bison track and field program for 27 years before stepping down as head coach in 2023 and assuming an assistant coaching role. During his tenure, his accolades included the following:

Mastin ushered the Bison into its Division II era (2018-19), which has seen many successes since then. Those honors include four GAC women's outdoor track and field championships, two GAC men's outdoor track and field championships, and 45 All-American recognitions. Additionally, Mastin was named the conference Coach of the Year five times during the span.
Before coming to Bison Hill, Mastin spent 14 years (1982-1996) at Prague High School in Oklahoma. There, he began to master his craft as a track coach and ended up coaching 13 All-State award winners while being named Oklahoma Track Coach of the Year and USA Track and Field representative for Olympic development in 1994.
Off the track, Mastin has a master of divinity degree from Southwestern Theological Seminary and a master of education degree from East Central University. He was named OBU's Most Promising Teacher in 2001 and received the OBU Meritorious Award in 2017. He is a third generation Bison – a 1977 graduate of OBU. He lettered in track from 1973-1977 and was Team Captain and Most Valuable Athlete in his senior season. All three of Ford and Terri's children are OBU Graduates; Linsey, Trevor, and Kaeley.
