SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist seniors
Alex Schroeder and
Troy Shields were named All-America selections by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association and American Baseball Coaches Associations this week.
Each player has now made three All-America lists this postseason: the two publications mentioned above and by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
For Schroeder, he earned Second Team recognition from the D2CCA before being named Third Team by the ABCA on Friday. In the process, he moved his career All-America certificate total to seven, most in school history. The designated hitter/catcher from Rocklin, Calif., started all 52 games this spring, batted .356, scored 59 runs, collected 72 hits, 22 homers and drove in 87 RBI.
Those latter totals were each top-three marks in the nation. Plus, Schroeder left OBU and the Great American Conference with 66 career homers, most ever.
As for Shields, his final year on Bison Hill was his best. He smacked 20 homers, drove in 77, batted .366, scored 57 runs and connected with 68 hits. All those marks were career-highs for the El Dorado Hills, Calif., native who was also named GAC Player of the Year.
