Southeastern Powers Past Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE – Southeastern Oklahoma State tallied 13 runs within the first three innings of play on Tuesday against Oklahoma Baptist. By game's end, the visitors won 20-6 at Bobby Cox Field.

SE led off the first with five runs despite the absence of J.J. Bush, the team's leading home-run hitter. An RBI double by Austin Parker, run-scoring single by Easton Ford and a three-run homer by Jacob Ambriz highlighted the beginning of the contest for the Savage Storm.

OBU would go on to attempt a run of their own, loading the bases with one out in the bottom of the second. However, back-to-back outs would soon follow, leaving the score at 8-1 going into the third.

The top of the third would be riddled with a few pitching mistakes including a run scored on a passed ball, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch— all of which being capped off with a three-run homer by Parker. His shot to center pushed the score to 13-1. To make matters worse, all of SE's runs that frame came with two out.

The bottom of the third proved to be fruitful for the Bison, catching some brief momentum after loading the bases for the second time. OBU brought in three runs on a two-RBI single by Mason Cox and a centerfield sac-fly by Jacob Campbell which cut the deficit to 13-5.

The Savage Storm dominated the remainder of the game, allowing only one run in the fifth inning from an RBI single by Matt Marsic to centerfield. They would go on to score seven runs in the sixth frame highlighted by a two-RBI double by Alex Showalter. SE finished with 17 hits, including four homers.

Cox led OBU with three hits and two RBI while Lucas Schaefer also drove in two. On the mound, Connor Jarzombek and Isaac Hill highlighted a tough night by combining to toss 2.1 innings, not allowing a run and fanning four.

OBU next travels to take on Harding in a Friday, Apr. 10 doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. in Searcy.
