MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Sophia Strange won the 10,000-meter run for the third consecutive year to head OBU's participants on day one of the 2024 Great American Conference Outdoor Championships in Magnolia, Arkansas.
Strange clocked a winning time of 36:29.22 to earn first-team All-GAC Honors while breaking the facility record held by Bison alum Abby Hoover (2018-37.18.72). Furthermore, it is the second-fastest time in GAC history at the meet.
Strange owns the top three times since the conference began its end-of-the-year event in 2016.
The Bison are second after compiling 27 points on the meet's opening day, led by Strange's 10-point contribution.
Olivia Lynch and Jade Robinson also turned in top-10 finishes in the 10k, crossing at seventh (39:04.98) and eighth (39:05.51), respectively.
Jade Byrd placed second in the hammer with a heave of 51.13m (167-9), while Altyn Bartley finished third with a throw of 49.08m (161-0). Both collected first-team All-GAC honors for their marks.
In the heptathlon, Karli Platte is sixth after racking up 2,294 points. She charted top-five finishes in the 100m hurdles (4th; 15.93), high jump (5th; 1.37m), and 200m (5th; 26.99)
Ouachita Baptist steers the nine-team field with 31 points, while East Central (14), Southeastern Oklahoma State (13), and Harding (10) make out the top five of the meet's standings.
