Four OBU Field Athletes Qualify for NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Four Oklahoma Baptist women's track and field athletes qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships to be held May 23-25 at Zola Witten Track at Francis G. Welch Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.

Field athletes Flora Dupans, Jade Byrd, Anisha Henderson, Jamora Horace will represent the Bison on the national stage.

Dupans qualified in both the discus and shot put with the nation's fourth and 23rd-best marks in the events, respectively. Dupans' shot put heave of 14.62m (47-11.75) is the furthest throw in school history, and earned her a first place finish at last week's OBU Last Chance meet. In the discus, she set a new program record with a throw of 50.18m (164-7).

The sophomore will compete in the discus on Friday (May 24) at 4:30 p.m. and the shot put on Saturday (May 25) at 11:00 a.m. Dupans punched her ticket to nationals in the discus a season ago and placed 14th with a throw of 44.42m (145-9).

Byrd also will participate in the discus, as her heave of 49.64m (162-10) ranks eighth among the 20 qualifiers. She posted the mark at the end of April at the Corky/Crofoot Shootout.

Byrd placed 18th in the discus (42.48m; 139-4) at nationals a year ago.

Henderson will also make her second straight appearance at the outdoor championships with the 20th-furthest long jump of 6.04m (19-9.75) in the country. In her last outing in 2023, Henderson took 14th with a jump of 5.91m (19-4.75).

It'll be the first career trip for Horace, who is seeded at No. 18 in the high jump. The sophomore qualified with a career-best clearance of 1.73m (5-8) at the OBU Last Chance meet.

Henderson will jump on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Horace will participate on Saturday at 1:45 p.m.
