Bison Lock Down Bulldogs, 10-4

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist senior Brek Galbreath set the tone from the get-go during the Bison's 10-4 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday at Bobby Cox Field.

OBU improved to 23-13 and 12-10 in the Great American Conference while SWOSU dipped to 19-17 and 10-12 in league play. It was the eighth straight win in the series for the Bison.

Key Leaders What Went Right
  • Galbreath. The senior's usually-good fastball was on point all night. He started the game retiring the first six batters with just 14 pitches and by the end, earned his 23rd career win. That's good for sixth place all-time. Additionally, he induced 17 combined groundouts and flyouts.
  • A dominant second. There were multiple homers delivered by OBU in that frame. Campbell got the first one going deep to left on a 3-2 pitch before Lissade roped another, this one a two-run bomb to the same area. OBU led 5-0 after two.
  • And a dominate third. The Bison registered another five runs, this time on six hits. Marsic had a near-triple to center which plated Dickinson while Lissade drove in two with a knock through the left side. Shafer also drove in a run with a single through the right side.
  • Dickinson's double play. In the sixth, SWOSU got its first two batters aboard when trailing 10-2. That momentum was quickly thwarted by OBU's junior third baseman. A hard grounder from Reece Burke was stopped by a diving Dickinson, who then got a force-out at third before throwing Burke out at first.
  • Speaking of defense, Will Joseph made some great plays in center, finishing with a season-high six putouts.
  • Down the stretch, Jordan Brewer closed the last 1.1 frames, allowed just a walk and helped secure the Bison win. He got a pair of ground-ball outs and fly-ball outs too.
What Went Wrong
  • There were just a couple innings that SWOSU, which entered as the fourth-best batting squad in the GAC, was able to get on the scoreboard. In the fourth, Ty Eastwood hit a solo homer while Jackson Syring rounded home on a sacrifice fly.
  • Then in the eighth, Marco Berrera scored via wild pitch while Geoff Marlow hit a solo shot down the left-field line.
On The Horizon
  • On Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m., the two teams will meet again for a doubleheader.
