GAC Names Jones Pitcher of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist pitcher Kayleigh Jones picked up Great American Conference Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday. The accolade comes after the fifth-year senior earned a pair of wins on the road against Arkansas Tech.

It is the fifth time this season that Jones has been recognized. Remarkably, over her career, she has been named pitcher of the week a staggering 18 times.

In two appearances versus the Golden Suns, Jones allowed just one run over 12.1 innings pitched. She struck out 18, issued just three walks and limited ATU to a .136 batting average. Over the course of the two games, Jones became the first Bison pitcher in school history to record 1,000 strikeouts.

Like last season, Jones has continued to be one of the best pitchers in America in 2024. She currently ranks fifth in the nation with 243 strikeouts. The Claremore, Okla., native is also tenth giving up 4.16 hits per seven innings, 11th with 21 wins and 18th in shutouts (7).

Jones and OBU will return to action as the top seed in the GAC Tournament. They'll return to the field on May 3 at noon in Bentonville, Ark.
