Shields Earns Another GAC Honor

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Troy Shields, a catcher and designated hitter for Oklahoma Baptist, earned another Great American Conference Player of the Week nod on Monday. It is the third time this season and fourth in his career that he has been honored.

Last week over four games, Shields batted a whopping .600 with nine hits, five homers, 13 RBI, nine runs scored and 25 total bases. He also posted a 1.667 slugging mark. With his efforts, the Bison earned four wins and boosted their record to 31-18.

The El Dorado Hills, Calif., native started the week with a 3-for-4 performance at Northeastern State. His three hits were all home runs and by the end of the game, his nine RBI were an OBU D2 single-game record.

Shields capped off the week with multiple hits in every game against Southern Nazarene. Defensively, he attained 21 putouts with no errors.

This season has been an outstanding one for Shields. His 19 homers are one off the national lead and rank eighth overall. He also is third in the country with 76 RBI. Plus, his .773 slugging percentage is tops in the GAC and No. 29 in D2.

Shields and the rest of the Bison will return to action May 3 at 3 p.m. when they visit Arkansas-Monticello for a best two-of-three GAC Tournament series.
