RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Alexander Schovanec was honored as the Great American Conference Field Athlete of the Week this afternoon, the league's committee announced. It is the second time he has received the GAC's weekly award in his career.
Schovanec registered two wins and a runner-up finish at the Ford Mastin Twilight last Thursday.
The senior began his dominant outing with a season-best heave of 16.82m (55-2.25) that won the shot put. The mark leads the GAC and ranks 25th in the nation. He claimed top honors once more in the discus, following a 45.54m (149-5) hurl that earned an NCAA DII provisional and is fifth in the conference.
Schovanec concluded his outstanding day with a second-place nod in the hammer. His throw of 49.51M (162-5) was season high and the second-best mark of his outdoor career.
The Bison return to action this week with trips to the 114th Drake Relays and Texas Tech's Corky/Crofoot Shootout.
