Dickinson Ignites Bison Comeback over RiverHawks

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist third baseman Spencer Dickinson continued his strong play during the Bison's 9-7 comeback win over Northeastern State on Tuesday at Bobby Cox Field. The green and gold improved to 22-13 with the result and won for the fourth time in fifth tries at home against NSU.

Key Leaders
  • Dickinson went 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. He also tallied a homer, his ninth of the year.
  • Will Joseph posted a 3-for-5 line with two doubles, two RBI and a few impressive outs from his centerfield position.
  • Rafael Gutierrez had a pair of hits and drove in a run.
  • Bryant Thornton tossed 2.1 frames, struck out four and allowed just a run.
  • Ryan Turbeville got the win by throwing 1.1 innings, fanning two and not allowing a hit to NSU.
What Went Right
  • Dickinson. He got the Bison going with a homer in the second before providing the go-ahead hit in the eighth. During that frame, his double to left center scored Matt Marsic and Joseph and gave OBU the lead. Over the past nine games, he has led the team with a .444 average, six homers, 18 RBI and a 1.000 slugging mark.
  • Joseph. The centerfielder provided the team's third run before his single in the eighth tied the game at 6-6. He also made two tough plays in the outfield during the second and fifth innings.
  • Thornton. The junior helped settle down OBU on the pitching mound. He came in during the second before exiting with one out in the fourth. Thornton's four strikeouts were a game-high.
  • OBU rallied back. The Bison were down 5-2 nearly midway through the game. In the fifth, Joseph and Gutierrez had run-scoring hits before Isiah Lissade drew a bases-loaded walk which tied the game.
  • Strong finish. In the eighth, Dickinson provided the highlight hit while Jacob Campbell and Joseph provided two more RBI. Heading to the ninth, the Bison led 9-6.
  • From the second through the ninth innings, Bison pitching allowed just three runs to the RiverHawks. Thornton, Jake Wellington, Jordan Brewer, Turbeville and William Ellis helped that front.
What Went Wrong
  • The visitors got off to a hot start with four runs on four hits in the first. Ty Van Meter had a two-run knock to highlight NSU's efforts.
On The Horizon
  • An important Great American Conference series is on deck for OBU. On April 5-6 they will face Southwestern Oklahoma State in Shawnee.
