NORMAN, Okla. – Flora Dupans broke the Oklahoma Baptist outdoor shot put record at Oklahoma's John Jacobs Invitational to highlight OBU's track and field action over the weekend. The Bison also sent two athletes to the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif.
Dupans crushed Paige Kannady's record (14.01m; 45-11.75), set in 2015, with a heave of 14.25m (46-9) that placed ninth. Nationally (DII), the mark stands fourth. Dupans added a fourth-place finish in the discus with a personal-best throw of 48.33m (158-7), the second-furthest throw in school history.
The mark also earned a provisional and ranks eighth in Division II.
Jade Byrd collected sixth and 10th-place finishes in the hammer and discus. Byrd charted a personal-best throw of 51.87m (170-2) in the hammer before reaching 43.74m (143-6) in the discus.
Rounding out the field notables was Jamora Horace, who cleared 1.65m (5-5) for fourth place in the high jump, and Anisha Henderson, whose leap of 5.71m (18-9) earned seventh.
Horace's mark is the best of the program's DII era and ranks third all-time.
Shayna Hendrix crossed seventh in the 800m at 2:15.23, while Delaney Riekert's 57.17 finished 10th in the 400m.
In the 100m hurdles, Elisabeth Jones paced OBU with the event's fourth-fastest time (14.78), ahead of Kyndall Hicks' 15.31 that took eighth.
The 4x100 relay squad ran the second-best time in the DII era, crossing the white line in 46.51 for fifth place. In the 4x400, the Bison earned another provisional with a 3:48.94 that claimed fifth.
BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
Sophia Strange clocked a personal-best time of 35:32.59 in the 10K race, which placed seventh and earned a DII provisional. The junior's time is the quickest in the DII era and the best since 2005.
Mekenzie Connell also represented well, earning a 20th-place finish in the 1500m at 4:40.47. She also ran a 2:13.12 in the 800m, the second-fastest time in the GAC this season.
