NORMAN, Okla. – Trey Bartholomew broke OBU's 40-year-old outdoor high jump record as he took top honors at Oklahoma's John Jacobs Invitational to highlight the Bison's efforts over the weekend.
Bartholomew cleared 2.16m (7-1) to dismount Mark Elliston's all-time mark that stood since 1984. The leap earned an NCAA DII provisional and ranks fourth in Division II. Furthermore, it is the sophomore's second win in the event during the outdoor season.
Alexander Schovanec earned a seventh and eighth-place finish in the discus and shot put, respectively. Schovanec tossed 50.09m (164-4) in the discus and charted a heave of 16.52m (54-2.5) in the shot put.
Matthew Higdon secured a DII provisional after placing fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 59.21m (194-3).
In the javelin, Evan Olson turned in a third-place finish with his second-best throw of the season (60.87m; 199-8). It is the fourth top-three finish for the graduate student out of Greshman, Ore.
Aaryn Anderson and Boone Bennett paced OBU's entries in the 110 hurdles, claiming third and fourth place, respectively. Anderson clocked a 14.41, while Bennett crossed moments later a 14.43. Both times met the NCAA DII qualifying standard.
Bennett added a sixth-place finish in the 400 hurdles (54.96), behind Jentezen Smith, who took third with a 54.07.
Freshman Emery Crayton recorded the fastest outdoor 5000m time in the program's DII era, as he claimed 13th with a finish of 14:59.14.
Carson Kardokus, Michael Parker, and Emmett Murphy collected top-10 finishes in the 800 meters. Kardokus led the trio at 1:54.11, while the others crossed at 1:55.19 (Parker) and 1:55.85 (Murphy).
The OBU 4x400 squad ran a season-best time of 3:14.45 for fourth place, while the 4x100 team also placed fourth after running a 41.73.
