Preview: Bison at Southeastern Oklahoma State

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist (12-8, 4-5 GAC) will travel to Durant on Sunday for a three-game Great American Conference series with Southeastern Oklahoma State (6-12, 0-9 GAC).

On March 10, the two teams will meet for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. before a Monday, March 11 beginning at 1 p.m. OBU has won five in a row against the Savage Storm, including sweeping last year's series on Bison Hill.  The green and gold have fared well in Durant, too, holding a 9-7 advantage since the squads started playing in 2011.

Most recently, the Bison split a mid-week series with Central Oklahoma while SE lost a three-game GAC series at Southwestern Oklahoma State.

Bison Notes
  • Isiah Lissade was named the GAC's and NCBWA's Central Region Player of the Week. He's only the fourth Bison to earn a weekly region nod since 2019.
  • This season, Lissade is the GAC leader in batting (.436) and ranks seventh in slugging (.718). He also is slotted third in the country in hits (34), 12th in total bases (56) and 15th in runs scored (25).
  • Over his last three appearances, left-hander Logan Kimbro has found a groove. In 13.0 innings pitched, he has posted a 2.08 ERA and given up just three earned runs.
  • OBU has recorded 10 homers in its last five games. Their season total of 26 is good for 14th in Division II. Leading that front in Alex Schroeder. His six long shots are slotted No. 22 in the nation.
  • Schroeder has also been collecting doubles at a good rate. His mark of nine is tops in the GAC and 12th nationally.
  • Collectively, OBU is producing solid numbers in the batter's box. The team has earned 111 walks this year, 15th-best in the country. Plus, its .320 batting average is slotted 38th while the team's 204 hits are ranked 16th.
  • On the pitching mound, Brek Galbreath, Nolan Feazle and Cameron Pool are all tied for seventh in D2 with five games started. Plus, Feazle's and Pool's two victories are top-25 NCAA marks.
  • During last Friday's start against Northwestern, Galbreath broke into OBU's top-10 in career innings pitched. The senior from Joshua, Texas ranks 10th with 239.2 IP. He passed Bruce Thornton (1988-89) who tossed in 238.0 innings.
Savage Storm Notes
  • Southeastern has lost six straight. They are also 0-9 in the Great American Conference.
  • Pitching has been a concern for Southeastern so far. The team's 7.83 ERA is 10th in the GAC and 188th (out of 244 teams) in D2. Just this past weekend at SWOSU, the Savage Storm gave up 42 runs in those three games.
  • Individually, Cameron Haugh has been SE's best pitcher. He has a 4.08 ERA, a 2-2 record and earned a staff-high 23 strikeouts.
  • Also of note defensively, SE is 15th in the nation with 16 double plays.
  • Offensively, the Storm, like OBU, are one of the best home-run hitting teams in America. Their total of 27 bombs are 12th-best and first in the GAC.
  • Seven different players have three apiece: Damon Burroughs, Nick Hill, Reid Rice, Cam Wheeler, Wesley Mitchell, Yaniuis Ortiz and Coby Grimsley.
  • Speaking of Burroughs and Hill, the former is 13th in the conference with 19 runs scored while the latter, Hill, checks in at the same spot in RBI (18 total).
