SHAWNEE – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Sophia Strange as a 2024 Division II Indoor All-Region honoree this week.
Strange, a junior from Houston, Texas, notches her first career All-Region nod. She is the first Bison to collect regional recognition since OBU landed six on the list in 2019.
That season, the following were named honorees: Kaylee Crowson (5000m), JoziRose Mayfield (4x400 relay), McKae Mitchell (4x400 relay), Leah Molter (60m hurdles), Sherine Van Der Westhuizen (4x400 relay), and Cameka Witter (400m & 4x400 relay).
Strange accepts the accolade with the region's fifth-fastest time in the 5000m (16:55.43), ran at the Crimson & Gold Invitational on Dec. 9. Nationally, her mark ranked 40th.
Furthermore, it was a personal best time and nearly broke OBU's DII indoor record (16:54.81), set by Abby Hoover in 2018.
