East Central Powers Back Past OBU

ADA – East Central rallied from a 14-8 deficit and defeated Oklahoma Baptist via error in the tenth, 16-15, during the second game of the three-contest series on Saturday in Great American Conference action.

The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Bison who fell to 21-12 and 11-9 in the GAC.

Key Leaders
  • Spencer Dickinson hit two homers and drove in six, a season-high.
  • Troy Shields went 2-for-5 with four RBI.
  • Will Joseph collected two hits, three RBI and drew three walks.
  • Jayden Shafter posted a 2-for-4 line and scored a team-high four runs.
  • Pitcher Ryan Turbeville tossed 2.1 frames and struck out four.
What Went Right
  • The Bison rallied. OBU trailed 7-3 after three. In the fourth and sixth frames, they came back. During the fourth, Shields and Alex Schroeder highlighted that frame with RBI singles.
  • In the sixth, Dickinson had a three-run blast to left while Shields cleared the bases with a double to center. That latter knock moved the Bison ahead, 13-8. One more run crossed courtesy of Joseph, who brought home Shields with a single.
  • Dickinson. The junior transfer has now hit homers in four of the last five games after he notched two on Saturday. He has also drove in 13 in that same span.
  • For the third straight game, OBU scored double-digit runs. Over the past three contests, the Bison have tallied 56 runs on 50 hits.
  • Turbeville. He'll take the tough-luck loss after an outfield error in the tenth, but the lefty was very good. In 2.1 frames, he fanned four, gave up three hits and didn't walk a single batter. Turbeville also got a pair of ground-ball outs.
What Went Wrong
  • Pitching. Outside of Turbeville's performance, the Bison struggled. Each of the first three pitchers gave up multiple runs. Plus, East Central's 16 runs in the game were the second-most allowed by OBU this season.
  • The Bison did strand 15 runners and in the final two innings, got only one base runner on.
On The Horizon
  • The series finale between the two teams was scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. at Ken Turner Field.
