Schroeder Breaks Record During Blowout Win

ADA – Oklahoma Baptist senior Alex Schroeder moved into first place in school history in RBI during the team's 28-14 victory over East Central on Friday.

In the eighth, Schroeder blasted a two-run homer for his 178th and 179th runs batted in, breaking the 40-year-old record held previously by Jim King (177; 1981-84).

OBU won for the sixth straight game in the process and improved to 21-11 overall and 11-8 in the Great American Conference.

Key Leaders
  • Spencer Dickinson went 3-for-5 with a homer, four RBI and four runs scored, a season-high.
  • Jaden Wiley also posted a 3-for-5 line which included his first homer of the season. He also drove in four, a season-best.
  • Schroeder, Will Joseph and Austin Gonzales also collected three hits each and combined for 11 RBI. Gonzales' three hits were a season-best.
  • Plus, Isiah Lissade drove in three with a triple and single.
  • On the mound, Jake Wellington closed the ninth by retiring the side. Logan Kimbro got the win going 3.1 innings, allowing three runs and inducing four fly-ball outs and four groundouts.
What Went Right
  • Bombs away. The Bison scored a season-high 28 runs on 19 hits. That included homers by Schroeder, Troy Shields, Wiley and Dickinson.
  • The 28 runs scored were the most by the Bison since last year's series opener versus ECU. In that game on March 31, 2023, OBU tallied 30.
  • A hot start. Eight batters went into the box in the first for the Bison. They ended up plating five which was highlighted by home-run blasts from Shields and Dickinson.
  • And a hot finish. The hosts made things very uneasy going to the ninth, trailing OBU by only three, 17-14. Over the next 25 minutes of action, OBU sent a whopping 16 batters to the plate. They scored 11 runs, got a two-run triple by Lissade and a pair of two-run singles from Joseph and Gonzales.
  • Wellington. A pitcher that closely resembles former NFL quarterback Tom Brady closed the ninth with a strikeout and two groundouts.
What Went Wrong
  • East Central (6-27, 3-16 GAC) came into the game 11th out of 12 GAC schools in batting (.266). By the end of the 3-hour, 36-minute contest, the Tigers had attained a season-high 20 hits.
  • The hosts scored single runs in the first, second and third innings before dropping a six spot in the fourth. That chased starter Brek Galbreath from the game, who ended up allowing 12 hits, nine of which were singles.
On The Horizon
  • On March 30, the two teams will meet again at 1 p.m. for a GAC twinbill at Ken Turner Field.
