Bison Roll Southeastern, Win Fifth Straight

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist's Jaden Wiley and Will Joseph helped lead the charge over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, winning the non-conference affair 13-7 at Bobby Cox Field.

It was OBU's fifth straight win and it improved the team's record to 20-11.

Key Leaders
  • Wiley tied his season-high with three hits which included a double. He also scored a season-high three runs.
  • Joseph posted a 3-for-6 performance which included a pair of run-scoring singles in the first and second frames.
  • Spencer Dickinson had two singles and a homer.
  • First baseman Jayden Shafer went 2-for-4 with three RBI, a season-best.
  • Plus, Alex Schroeder and Troy Shields collected multiple hits.
  • Logan Kimbro earned his second win by tossing 3.1 innings, allowing just one run, and inducing five ground-ball outs.
  • Jordan Brewer closed the final two frames and notched three strikeouts and three groundouts.
  • Ryan Turbeville tied his season-high with five strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work.
What Went Right
  • Offense. Again. Through four games versus Southeastern, the Bison have tallied a whopping 47 runs on 57 hits.
  • The Bison scored four runs in three different innings: the second, third and fifth.
  • Joseph. He provided a two-out hit in the first which broke the 0-0 tie before providing another run-scoring knock an inning later which boosted the Bison lead to 5-2.
  • Wiley. He sparked the Bison in the second with a one-out double to right center. That helped lead the green and gold to eventually score four runs on five hits. OBU went up 6-2 and never lost its advantage after that.
  • Kimbro. The junior entered when SE had bases loaded in the fourth and from there gave up just one run. In his appearance, Kimbro struck out two and got a trio of fly-ball outs.
  • Defensively, OBU did not commit an error for the 15th time in 31 games. It also had highlight-reel plays in the outfield by Wiley and Joseph. Dickinson, at third, and shortstop Jacob Campbell also turned a few nice outs for OBU.
What Went Wrong
  • Southeastern, which came into the game No. 21 in the country in homers, did get three off Bison pitching. There was a two-run bomb in the second by Coby Grimsley before a Cam Wheeler homer in the fifth. The last of those, courtesy of Wesley Mitchell, happened in the eighth.
On The Horizon
  • Next on the schedule for OBU is a three-game series at East Central starting on March 29 at 2 p.m.
