ADA – Oklahoma Baptist was outstanding offensively in the first half but a poor second half allowed East Central to rally and win 64-57 over the Bison on Saturday.
With the loss, OBU moved its record to 12-16 and fell to the eighth seed for next week's Great American Conference Tournament. The green and gold will play top seed Southern Nazarene (27-1) on March 7 at 8 p.m. inside FireLake Arena.
Key Leaders
- Jaedyn Getman went for 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds. With the effort, Getman became the first OBU player in the D2 era to record 20-plus points in 11 different games.
- Madison Chambers added 11 points.
- Forward Jill Leslie also contributed nine points and nine boards.
What Went Right
- The Bison had 41 points at halftime. That marked just second time all season that OBU accumulated that many. Previously, the squad registered 48 versus Oklahoma City on Nov. 17, 2023.
- In that point total, OBU made 51.7 percent from the field and 45.4 from three. The team committed just three turnovers as well.
- Getman was unguardable in the first half, scoring 18 points.
- Late in the second, freshman Payten Conde dialed up a three to push the score to 41-26, OBU's biggest lead of the game.
What Went Wrong
- The third quarter. OBU scored just five points while ECU registered 19. The Bison made 2-of-14 (14.2%) from the field and were 0-of-6 from downtown. As for the host Tigers, they made six shots and converted 6-of-7 at the foul line.
- Mackenzie Crusoe's three-ball with 15 seconds left broke a 46-46 tie and gave ECU a lead it ended up holding the rest of the way.
- In the fourth, OBU got to within three points twice on points from Chambers and Getman. However, the Bison couldn't overcome East Central's lead.
- Over the final two quarters, OBU made five of its 26 shots, a 19.2 percent mark.
On The Horizon
- March 7th's matchup with the seventh-ranked (WBCA) Crimson Storm will be the third meeting this season. In the regular season, SNU dialed up 63-46 and 75-53 wins over the Bison.
