RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Bison Softball athletes Kayleigh Jones and Ally Ryan have been named the Great American Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
The duo led Oklahoma Baptist to a 3-1 record last week, which included a midweek victory against Southern Nazarene and a series win over Arkansas Monticello.
It is Jones' 16th career honor from the GAC and the first for Ryan.
Jones started her sensational week with a no-hitter on Tuesday, as she struck out seven batters in OBU's 10-0 run-rule victory over SNU. She twirled a complete 5.0 innings and would've charted her first perfect game if it wasn't for a pair of walks.
It was the sixth no-hitter of her career and second this season, which surpassed Henderson State's Michelle Sorenson record for the most in GAC history.
Then, Jones picked up two more wins against UAM to boost her weekly record to 3-0. In two appearances versus the Blossoms, Jones recorded 27 strikeouts and only allowed one earned run. She registered her fourth shutout of the season in Saturday's rubber match, where she punched out 14 without giving up an earned score.
Jones limited opponents to a .087 batting average and finished with a 0.33 ERA across 21.0 innings of action.
Ryan smacked three home runs and accounted for eight RBI in four games. She hit .333 and paired a GAC-best 1.083 slugging percentage with a .429 on-base mark.
Ryan's week was highlighted by a 3-for-3 outing against the Crimson Storm. The Frisco, Texas native posted back-to-back jacks in her first couple of at-bats before singling to bring in her sixth RBI of the contest.
It is the first time she has recorded three hits and homered twice in a game. She added another home run on the weekend, boosting her season total to a league-best of eight.
Oklahoma Baptist will return to action on Wednesday against the University of Texas at Tyler.
