MONTICELLO, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello used a big eighth inning to pull away from Oklahoma Baptist (15-11, 7-8 GAC) on Monday, winning 13-3 during the Great American Conference contest at Weevils Field.
Tomorrow, the Bison will return home to face Pittsburg State (18-7) at 3 p.m. Earlier this year, OBU defeated the Gorillas 17-5 in Edmond.
OBU played from behind against UAM on Monday, surrendering a two-out grand slam in the first before pulling close.
In the third,
Alex Schroeder drove in
Camron Grant with a sacrifice fly to right. A frame later and down 5-1, the green and gold plated two more.
Centerfielder
Will Joseph blasted a lead-off homer before a wild pitch allowed Grant to score OBU's third run. Joseph ended up with a team-high three hits while
Isiah Lissade added two.
In the fifth, OBU had the tying runs on base, however, UAM pitcher Jacob McDaniel got a full-count strikeout to end the threat. As it turned out, that was the last, best chance for the Bison who were held scoreless over the final three frames.
Monticello then invoked the run-rule in the eighth when it sent 12 batters into the box and secured five hits and seven runs.
On the pitching mound, both
Cameron Pool and
Logan Kimbro earned four strikeouts apiece.
