RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced junior utility player Morgan Max as the league's Co-Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
The accolade comes after Max led the Bison to a 3-0 weekend with outstanding performances at the plate and in the circle. It is the second GAC weekly honor of her career.
Max boasted team leads in almost every offensive statistic, as she finished hitting .667 with a slugging percentage of 1.556. She smacked two home runs, drove in six runs, and accounted for 14 total bags. One of those homers was a grand slam that broke a 1-1 tie in game two of the series.
The Moore, Okla., native recorded six hits, two doubles, and crossed home plate four times.
Max's 3-for-3 showing at the plate in Saturday's opener was electric. She homered twice, scored three times, and totaled five RBI. Then she pulled double duty in the pitching lane, stepping in to clinch the series victory and earn her second career save.
She surrendered one hit without giving up a run in 2.2 innings of action.
Max is hitting a career-best .393 this season with a slugging mark of .696 and .446 on-base percentage. She is tied for the team's most hits (22) and has recorded the sixth-most home runs (4) in the GAC. Additionally, Max has driven in 18 runs, also a top-10 mark in the conference.
Max and company return to action tomorrow night at home against Southern Nazarene at 7 p.m.
