Chambers, Bison Clinch Key Win over Southeastern

SHAWNEE – Fifth-year senior Madison Chambers played an important role for Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday during the team's 70-60 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State. She scored 17 points and helped the Bison clinch a berth into next week's Great American Conference Tournament at nearby FireLake Arena.

With the result, OBU also improved to 12-15 and 9-12 in the GAC.

Key Leaders
  • Chambers' 17 points marked the second-straight game she reached double figures. That's only happened one other time this year. She also contributed five rebounds, three assists and committed no turnovers.
  • Sophomore Jaedyn Getman also registered 17 points with five rebounds and three assists.
  • Kennedy Large scored a season-high 14 points and made a couple three-pointers. The junior also grabbed six boards.
  • Jill Leslie was very solid, scoring nine points with seven rebounds. She also notched two blocks to mover her season total to 44. That breaks her previous OBU D2 single-season mark (42) set last season.
  • Additionally, Sierra Copeland chipped in with five points and nine rebounds.
What Went Right
  • A dominant third quarter. The Bison were down 36-32 at the break. Then in the third, the hosts scorched Southeastern, outscoring the visitors 25-10. Five different players scored led by Getman's nine. Plus, Chambers and Large combined for 13 as OBU hit 11-of-21 (52.3%) from the field.
  • Three-point defense. Specifically in the second half, the green and gold limited the visitors to 1-of-13 shooting from deep, a 7.6 percent-mark.
  • Rebounding. The Bison were plus-nine in the category, 44-35. Copeland had some huge rebounds as did Leslie.
  • Valuing the ball. OBU turned the ball over just six times, its fewest miscues this season.
  • Closing the door. After the game-turning third quarter, OBU closed things out strongly in the fourth. In that period, the Bison led by as many as 13 points on a few occasions. The last of those, a Large layup at 3:24, pushed OBU's advantage to 70-57.
What Went Wrong
  • Southeastern was awfully efficient in the second. They made 53 percent from the field, 50 percent from deep and connected 6-of-8 at the foul line. That helped the visitors take a 36-32 halftime lead.
On The Horizon
  • OBU will close its regular season on March 2 with a 1 p.m. game at East Central.
