Bison STUNT Win Thriller over D3 Power

SHAWNEE – A 15-14 win over Alma College, a D3 school from Michigan, highlighted Oklahoma Baptist STUNT's Monday performances inside the Noble Complex.

After a 23-0 result against Southern Nazarene, the Bison battled the Scots and prevailed over the three-time reigning D3 national champion for the first time in three tries.

"Alma is a great team; they win D3 nationals every year. It was fun to have them down and play a really competitive game. We had great energy in the building tonight and it was a lot of fun." Head Coach Jessica Stiles said.

During the evening match with Alma, the green and gold jumped ahead 4-1 in the first quarter's partner stunts routines. Then in the second, pyramids and tosses, OBU extended its lead to 8-3.

Third-quarter action saw Alma pull within two. That quarter, jumps and tumbles, the Scots scored four of five points and brought the scoreboard to 9-7 OBU.

The two talented teams then gave the fans in attendance an exciting fourth stanza. During the combined team routines, points were traded a few times before Alma pulled the score to 13-12. After that, the host Bison prevailed 15-14.

"We struggled through tumbles in the third quarter. That was kind of our talk when we pulled the team together. Our team moved on, got to the next quarter (fourth), and focused on the next round. Our team really did that in the fourth and helped us keep the lead," Stiles added.

Next week, the Bison will return to competition on March 1-2 against Drury, Texas Woman's and Texas-Tyler. "We're going to watch film, fix those small errors and continue to train our freshman to stay strong mentally no matter what team we're playing and no matter where we are at," Stiles said.
