Muleriders Deal Bison 60-51 Setback

SHAWNEE – Turnovers and missed open shots plagued Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday as it fell to the visiting Southern Arkansas Muleriders 60-51 in Great American Conference play at the Noble Complex.

With the loss, OBU dipped to 10-15 overall and 7-12 in the league. The Bison are now tied with Ouachita for the eighth and final GAC Tournament spot with three games remaining.

Key Leaders First Half
  • SAU turned it over just four times and made 14-of-29 from the field as it built a 35-22 halftime lead. The visitors also connected on 5-of-8 (62.5%) from deep.
  • Addy Tremie scored 18 of those points for SAU which included a 4-for-4 showing from three.
  • On the flip side, OBU couldn't keep pace from downtown. It made only two of its 11 shots. The hosts also committed eight turnovers.
  • Stevenson led the green and gold, hitting 5-of-9 from the field for 14 points. The Shawnee native scored 10 points alone in the first stanza.
Second Half
  • In the third quarter, the Bison outscored the visitors 21-16 and pulled to within eight, 51-43, after a Stevenson three with 1:26 on the clock. OBU was awfully good on offense this period, making 72.7 percent overall and half of its six 3-point shots.
  • Early in the final quarter, the Bison got two free throws from Getman at the 6-minute mark. At that point, OBU trailed 53-48.
  • However, OBU made just one field goal from the 8:39 mark to 30 seconds left. They were 0-for-9 before a Kennedy Large three brought the tally to 56-51 SAU. Down the stretch, the Muleriders converted four free throws to get the final margin.
On The Horizon
  • On Feb. 24 at 1 p.m., the Bison will host Arkansas-Monticello. The Blossoms fell at Southern Nazarene on Thursday and moved their record to 8-17 and 4-15 in the GAC.
