SHAWNEE – The start of Oklahoma Baptist's 2024 STUNT campaign opens this week in Dallas, Texas. OBU will play four games at Dallas Baptist University's Burg Center.
On Feb. 16, the green and gold have games with St. Mary's and Kentucky before two more contests a day later versus California Baptist and Concordia University Irvine.
Last year, the Bison, under the direction of Head Coach
Jessica Stiles, posted a 13-2 record and made it all the way to the STUNT National Championships. They ended up falling to Davenport, 16-13, in the championship game. It marked the fourth time that OBU earned a runner-up finish.
"Leaving last year's national championship tournament and heading into this season's start, we are reminding the team how every detail and every round in STUNT games matter," Stiles said.
"We won game one in the national championship against Davenport by a very slim margin, and Davenport took game two in the very last round, by a small margin as well. Every detail matters and this team has that driving them into this season."
OBU has many talented returners on this 2024 squad including seniors
Bella Vinyard,
McKenna Trautwein,
Lexi Sprenger,
Paityn Johnston,
Brielle Oliver and
Addi Higgins.
"The returning roster is a mix of very talented veterans and freshmen. We have many freshmen who are stepping into high-profile, key roles as young STUNT athletes. Our staff has been working hard to help these newcomers understand the game of STUNT, the importance of the details and prepare them mentally for the intensity of the games we are about to play," Stiles added.
Winning the championship is on the minds of all Bison STUNT team members.
"We keep telling the team to "stay the course" this year. Focus on each practice, each rep of a routine, to get better each day. When we focus on each practice and each routine daily, we will arrive to the national championship ready."
