Arkansas Tech Runs Away from OBU

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech hit a season-high 61.4 percent from the field during its 87-54 victory against Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at Tucker Coliseum. The Bison dipped their record to 9-12 and 6-10 in the Great American Conference.

With six regular-season games remaining, OBU is tied for eighth in the standings with Southern Arkansas, a team the Bison defeated 63-58 in January.

The first quarter set the tone for the Golden Suns who made a blistering 9-of-11 (81.8%) from the field. They scored 23 points and watched as Dana Thompson and Maisa Marcal accounted for 10 of those. OBU on the other hand connected at a 28.5-percent rate. Despite that, the Bison did make all six of their foul shots and trailed 23-15 after one.

Second-quarter action helped ATU pull away. Not only did the hosts hit 45 percent, but they also made nine of 11 free throws (81.8%). Early on, with the scoreboard reading 25-18 following a Faith Wright three, Arkansas Tech turned on another gear and blew the game wide open. Over the final eight minutes, they scored 19 of the game's 23 points, made 5-of-8 shots and were 7-of-8 at the charity stripe. With that, the hosts led 44-22.

As for the Bison in those minutes, they turned it over seven times and made one of their eight field-goal attempts.

After the break, Jaedyn Getman started the scoring just seven seconds in. However, the 44-24 margin would be the closest OBU got that period and the rest of the game. Getman ended up scoring 12 points for the Bison, their only double-digit scorer of the contest.

The road does not get any easier for OBU. On Feb. 15, the Bison will travel to fifth-ranked Southern Nazarene (21-1, 15-1 GAC) who had its 21-game winning streak snapped on Saturday by No. 10 Harding.
