Reddies Overcome Bison, 63-56

SHAWNEE – Henderson State outscored Oklahoma Baptist 21-7 in the fourth en route to a 63-56 victory inside the Noble Complex on Thursday.

OBU dropped its third straight and moved its record to 8-11 and 5-8 in the Great American Conference.

Key Leaders
  • Jaedyn Getman scored a game-high 17 points and added seven rebounds.
  • Madison Chambers contributed 13 points, three assists and two steals.
  • Jill Leslie registered eight points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
  • Sophomore Faith Wright hit a pair of three-pointers for six points.
What Went Right
  • First-quarter defending. The hosts held Henderson State to 27-percent shooting and led 14-10 after one period of competition.
  • A strong close to the second.  The Bison were down 23-19 with 2:25 until half. Down the stretch, OBU scored nine straight with Chambers providing four points.
  • Staying in front in the third. OBU shot a game-best 57 percent in the third. Getman and Chambers tallied multiple points that period as the Bison did not relinquish their lead. Heading to the fourth, it was 49-42 OBU.
  • Wright's shooting. Each of the sophomore's three-balls were timely. She made one in the second and then in the third to provide a boost for the Bison.
  • Defending Ashley Farrar. Henderson State's leading scorer was held to 16 points on 3-of-15 shooting. The 20-percent shooting mark tied her lowest of the season.
  • Three different players came up with blocks: Leslie, Sierra Copeland and Payten Conde.
  • As a unit, OBU made 12-of-15 for 80 percent at the foul line.
What Went Wrong
  • Far too often this season, OBU has had dry spells on offense. It bit them in the fourth when they seemingly entered the period in control. For the first six minutes and five seconds, OBU did not score. They committed five turnovers and missed their first five shots in the process. That allowed HSU to seize a 55-49 lead.
  • In the fourth quarter, OBU made two of 12 attempts, a 16-percent clip.
On The Horizon
  • On Feb. 3, the Bison will host Ouachita at 1 p.m.
