Bison Earn Gritty Win Over Ouachita

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist scrapped and clawed all afternoon and ended up defeating Ouachita 67-65 on Saturday, snapping a three-game skid.

The victory improved the Bison's record to 9-11 overall and 6-8 in the Great American Conference.

Key Leaders
  • Jaedyn Getman registered her tenth 20-point game of the season with a game-high 21. She also added seven rebounds and two steals.
  • Madison Chambers contributed 13 points and three steals.
  • Kennedy Large added eight points and five rebounds and made all four free throw attempts.
  • Also of note, Jill Leslie registered eight points and five rebounds while Faith Wright dished out a career-high five assists.
What Went Right
  • Playing together. Saturday's game wasn't easy. OBU was down as many as 12 points. However, numerous players made timely plays and by game's end, seven different Bison scored at least four points. That had only happened in four other games this season.
  • Dominating the paint. OBU crushed Ouachita in this statistic, 42-28.
  • Getman. She scored 10 points in the first half, followed by 11 in the second. In the fourth quarter especially, the Bison targeted their standout sophomore against a tiring Ouachita defense.
  • Stepping up. In the second, the Bison's offense got some nice contributions from freshmen Aubrey Marjason and Payten Conde. For Marjason, her four points were a season-best.
  • Free throws. In such a close game as this was, finding free points was big. The Bison made 9-of-12 for 75 percent while Ouachita made five of 10.
  • Closing strong. The score was knotted up at 62 with 2:17 left. What followed was two defensive stops for the Bison as well as points by Getman, Chambers and Parker Stevenson.
  • Lastly, the Bison benefitted from 23 Ouachita turnovers. They turned those into 23 points.
What Went Wrong
  • Three-point defense. Ouachita hit 43.5 percent from downtown on Saturday. The visitors made five 3-pointers in each half.
  • The Bison were out-rebounded 38-31 with 11 of those being Tiger offensive boards.
On The Horizon
  • Next on the schedule for the Bison is a road game against Harding on Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m. Earlier this season, HU won in overtime, 65-61, on Jan. 13.
