OBU Women’s Basketball sneaks by Arkansas-Monticello in conference opener at home

SHAWNEE – Bison Women's Basketball claimed their first conference win of the 2024-2025 campaign with a win at home over Arkansas-Monticello.

The green and gold earned their first win in GAC play this season with a 70-64 win over the Blossoms. 

In the 40 minutes of play, the Bison compiled 70 points with Makenzie Crusoe earning several new career highs in her first season as a Bison. 

Crusoe led the scoring efforts for OBU with a new career high of 26 points, and a new career high of five assists on the evening. The Choctaw, Oklahoma, native, also lead the team in steals with a pair on the night. The grad student went 7-17 from the field and 11-14 from the line with six rebounds.

Sierra Copeland had a night with double digit rebounds to lead the green and gold in the category for a new season high of 10 rebounds. Copeland also earned a new career high in blocks with a total of four blocks against the Blossoms. The Howe, Texas, native, joined Crusoe with the only other steal on the evening. 

Jill Leslie totaled eight rebounds and two blocks on the evening as well, compiling six points for OBU going 3-9 from the field.

At the half, the Bison led by double digits at 37-27. The third quarter saw the green and gold get back to business going 7-14 from the field to close out the quarter at a 50% from the field. OBU ended the night just shy of 80% from the charity stripe, going 23-29 overall, a new season high for the Bison. 

The duration of the game saw three ties and two lead changes. OBU totaled 28 points in the paint, 15 fast break points and 21 bench points. 

The win over the Blossoms saw the Bison claim a new season high in rebounds with 45 on the evening and a new season high in blocks with eight, doubling their previous record this season. 

Bison Women's Basketball will continue their time at home with a 1 p.m. tip off against Southern Arkansas.
