OBU Men’s Basketball faces heartbreaking loss to No. 6, Dallas Baptist

DALLAS – The green and gold fell just short of an upset after a two-point loss to No. 6, Dallas Baptist Friday evening.

The Bison dropped their first game of the evening with a tough two-point loss to the host of the DBU Thanksgiving Classic. 

From start to finish the Bison and the Patriots battled relentlessly with a total of six lead changes and seven ties, the last tie with two seconds remaining. DBU secured the final pair of points with one second on the clock, robbing Oklahoma Baptist of a major win.

In the first half, OBU was 14-33 in the field. The scone half saw the Bison improve across the board shooting 61.29% from the field, 45.45% from the three and 84.62 from the charity stripe. 

Ricky Brown led the green and gold offensively with 22 points on the evening, going 8-12 from the field, and 5-8 from the three. Terry Coner Jr. compiled 18 points for the Bison, going 7-15 from the field and leading the team in steals with four. Nathan Wilson also had a great night, leading OBU with 11 rebounds, one block, and a total of 14 points, going 5-9 from the field and 3-4 from the free throw line. 

The Bison totaled 40 points in the paint and 12 fast break points, outperforming the Patriots in both categories. 

A highly competitive first half saw a 39-34 score in favor of the home team at the break. 

In the second half, the Bison came out of the gate hot, quickly taking their second lead of the game with a fastbreak from Coner Jr. for two, 41-39. 
The entirety of the second half was a neck-and-neck battle with the biggest lead of the half seeing a difference of seven points. 

OBU's efforts never ceased, the final dagger being time itself. 

The Bison will be back in action tomorrow at Dallas Baptist University, this time taking on Texas A&M International. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
