Kenas, Williamson Lead Bison on All-GAC Team

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer players Olivia Kenas and Lex Williamson earned All-Great American Conference First Team accolades on Thursday as the league announced its end-of-season awards.

In addition to Kenas and Williamson, newcomers Sam Sheffield and Chloe Monroe earned second-team honors while Emma Teague was selected to the honorable mention squad.

Kenas' honor is her first. The Wichita, Kansas native was one of the best defenders in the GAC and contributed heavily on the offensive end. She ranked in the top-three with four goals scored while her nine points were tied for sixth. During the season, she became the first women's soccer player in conference history to garner Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors at the same time. On the defensive end, she helped the OBU defense to six shutouts, second-most in the GAC.

For Williamson, she has made the all-conference honor list two years in a row. Last season, she earned honorable mention accolades. This year, she started all 17 matches for the Bison and scored two goals. Most notably, she provided the game-winning shot in the final seconds against Ouachita on Oct. 23. Williamson also ranked seventh in the league in shots (2.35).

Second-team recognition came for Sheffield and Monroe, both freshmen for OBU.

In the attacking third, Sheffield dialed up one goal and four assists during the regular season. That assist total was one off the GAC lead and helped the Allen, Texas native become just the sixth Bison freshman since 2015 to reach that total. The speedy newcomer's lone goal came against SWOSU on Sept. 25 and her most notable assist was delivered to Williamson versus Ouachita.

Monroe was another key member for the Bison defense. One of only two Bison freshmen (Claire Stoermer) to start all 17 regular-season games, she helped the Bison allow the third-fewest goals (19) in the GAC.

Rounding out OBU's honorees was Teague. She scored three goals this fall and her six points were tied for second on the team.

There were also some academic awards distributed to the Bison. Alanna Bloomingdale was named a GAC Elite Scholar Student Athlete, her second consecutive season earning that honor.

Plus, these players earned recognition on the GAC Academic Honor Roll: Anna Branham, Macie Brannum, Camryn Laverty, Hali White, Ashley Bell, Annika Pinter, Kenas and Williamson.
