SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist baseball's
Alex Schroeder was named to two National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason awards teams this week.
On top of being an NCBWA Preseason All-Central Region selection, the senior from Rocklin, Calif., garnered Second Team All-America recognition.
It marks the second straight year the Bison had a player earn preseason All-America status. Former players
Dan Pruitt and
Kade Self earned the distinction last year.
As for the Central Region list, Schroeder was one of four Great American Conference players selected. Southern Arkansas' Brandon Nicoll and Jeremy Adorno and Ouachita's G. Allen were the others.
On the All-America list, Schroeder and Nicoll were the only two GAC players recognized.
Last season, the 6-foot-4 catcher and designated hitter for the Bison led the GAC with 23 homers, ranked fifth with 68 runs batted in and had the third-best slugging mark (.719). On top of that, he had a team-best 14 doubles and added 58 runs scored, third on OBU.
Defensively, he was very good too, posting a .979 fielding percentage with 255 putouts. His efforts helped the Bison make it to the GAC Tournament Championship where they eventually fell to perennial power Southern Arkansas.
Schroeder and the Bison are just six days away from the 2024 campaign. On Feb. 1 at 11 a.m., they'll face Pittsburg State in Edmond.
