Getman, Leslie Lead OBU over Blossoms

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Jaedyn Getman scored 22 points while Jill Leslie added 18 as Oklahoma Baptist overcame Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday, winning 69-60 at Steelman Fieldhouse.
 
OBU improved to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the Great American Conference with the result.
 
Key Leaders
  • Getman scored 20 of her game-high 22 points in the first half. She made 9-of-16 from the field and grabbed a half-dozen rebounds.
  • Leslie was sensational making 7-of-9 for 18 points while collecting a game-high seven rebounds. She also added two blocks.
  • Junior Kennedy Large added eight points along with two steals.
  • Sierra Copeland, Madison Chambers, Getman and Leslie all hit at least three free throws as the Bison unit went 16-of-20 (80%) from the foul line.
What Went Right
  • An outstanding fourth quarter. The Bison outscored UAM 18-6 in the final period making 5-of-8 from the field while connecting on 7-of-8 from the foul line.
  • Two-three zone. On top of quality offense, the Bison held the Blossoms to 0-of-8 shooting in the final period relying heavily on their zone defense.
  • Speaking of defense, OBU did a good job defending the three, holding UAM to 17.4 percent shooting.
  • Getman. Her 20 first-half points were crucial as the Bison found themselves down by as many as 11 points. She ended up accounting for 62 percent of the team's scoring in the first 20 minutes.
  • Leslie. The 6-foot-3 junior has progressed steadily since joining the team after volleyball season. Her 18 points were three off her career high and provided a huge boost in the second half.
  • Dominating the paint. OBU had a whopping 40-22 advantage over Monticello in paint points.
  • As a team, the Bison made 54 percent from the field, a season-high. 
What Went Wrong
  • The Bison defense was a bit sluggish in the first quarter giving up 47-percent shooting to the hosts. That helped UAM attain a 21-12 lead.
  • Turnovers. OBU committed 17 of them. However, Monticello only converted those into 10 points.

  • Next on the schedule is a date at Southern Arkansas on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m.
