Mustangs Overcome Bison, 2-1

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State scored two second-half goals to erase a 1-0 deficit during a non-conference match versus Oklahoma Baptist (1-4) on Wednesday at Stang Park.

Key Leaders What Went Right
  • Swaner scoring. She did so at the 22:24 mark of the first courtesy of Bloomingdale and Williamson. The Rockwall, Texas native had 13 career goals coming into the season and with that tally, moved into sixth place all-time with 34 career points. She sits just one point away from sliding into the top-five in OBU history.
  • Despite being out-shot 6-1 in the first half, the Bison kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard as Pendleton stopped two of those attempts.
  • For the second consecutive match, OBU's defense did not allow a first-half goal.
What Went Wrong
  • The Mustangs maintained too much of the possession on this night. The hosts had a 7-2 corner kick advantage and a 16-8 lead in shots. Furthermore, MSU allowed just two shots on-goal to the green and gold. Both of those were off the foot of Swaner.
  • Like the last match against Central Oklahoma, the OBU defense gave up goals in the second half. This time, MSU found the equalizer and then the go-ahead goal. Worst of all: a handball by the Bison resulted in a penalty-kick goal from MSU's Lexi Beck in the 54th minute which tied the match.
  • As mentioned earlier, the Bison were able to get just two shots off on-target against Mustangs keeper Lexi Jackson.
On The Horizon
  • Competition will take a big step forward for OBU's next match. The team will head to No. 8 Dallas Baptist (2-0-1) on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.
