SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist and 14th-year head coach
Mike White are about six weeks away from kicking off its 2023 slate. An 18-match regular-season schedule begins August 31 at Minnesota State-Mankato.
A season ago, OBU posted a 7-9-4 overall record and made the Great American Conference Tournament Final for the sixth straight year.
"We are very excited for this coming campaign," White said. "We have a lot of young talent coming in this year. We also have some experienced players both returning and transferring in. That combination of youth and experience will make for an exciting year."
Following the opening contest at Mankato, the Bison will remain on the road and drive southeast to Cedarville in Ohio on Sept. 2. After that long haul between Minnesota and Ohio which will span almost 2,400 miles, OBU will come home for a Sept. 7 match against Texas Woman's.
The remaining non-conference games include these road affairs: Sept. 9 at Central Oklahoma; Sept. 13 at Midwestern State and Sept. 16 at Dallas Baptist.
Of note, four of those six teams, Minnesota State, Cedarville, UCO and DBU, made last year's NCAA Tournament.
After the team's six non-conference matches, the Great American Conference schedule will begin. On Sept. 20, the Bison will host Southern Nazarene at the OBU Soccer Complex. Three days later, coach White's team will make the quick trip to rival Southwestern Oklahoma State for a 1 p.m. match. SWOSU defeated the Bison in last season's GAC tourney final.
That road game will be a part of three straight away from home for the Bison. On Sept. 27, the team will visit East Central before an Oct. 4 affair at Ouachita.
The team's second match in October will come at home against Harding on Oct. 7. That's slated for a 1 p.m. start.
Down the stretch, OBU will play seven matches, five of which will come in Shawnee. After the Harding match, the Bison visit Southern Nazarene (Oct. 11) and Northwestern Oklahoma State (Oct. 14). Then on Oct. 18, the green and gold's second contest against East Central will be played at home at 6 p.m.
The final road game of the regular season come Wednesday, Oct. 25 at Harding.
As for the last three matches of the season, they will all be at home: Oct. 28 vs. Ouachita; Nov. 1 against SWOSU and Nov. 4 versus Northwestern.
