RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The weekly occurrence of Oklahoma Baptist softball players earning Great American Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week honors continued again on May 1.
Kayleigh Jones and
Kennedy Clark garnered those awards marking the third straight week OBU claimed each of the conference accolades.
The pair helped lead the Bison to a three-game sweep of Arkansas Tech and earn the program's first-ever GAC Regular Season Championship. OBU moved to 43-9 on the season as well.
For Jones, now a 13-time GAC Pitcher of the Week honoree, she shut down ATU in two appearances. Over 14.0 innings pitched, she gave up a mere two hits. During the team's game-one win, Jones tossed her fourth career no-hitter. By the end of the series, Jones had 15 strikeouts, just one walk and limited the Golden Suns to a .045 batting average.
As for Clark, a freshman, she posted a .571 batting average, five RBI and a home run. She also didn't strike out in seven plate appearances and posted a .625 on-base mark. Her best game was in the opener, a 4-0 Bison win. The native of Richmond, Texas went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer. This is her second honor of the season.
This spring, Jones leads the GAC in numerous categories: ERA (0.66), opposing batting average (.159), strikeouts (302) and wins (30). Clark is fourth in on-base (.447) and her batting average of .387 is not only good for fifth but is the best of all the freshmen in the league.
Jones, Clark and the rest of the Bison will return to action as the top seed in the GAC Tournament set to start on May 4 against Southern Nazarene in Bentonville, Ark.
