Bison Close Regular Season at Northeastern

SHAWNEE – The final regular-season contest of the spring comes May 2 as Oklahoma Baptist travels to Northeastern State for a 5 p.m. game. About a month ago, the Bison dialed up an 8-6 win against the Riverhawks at Bobby Cox Field.

It marked the fourth time in the last five series games that OBU defeated NSU.

Most recently, the Bison swept Southern Nazarene to boost their record to 28-19. In the process, OBU earned the No. 6 seed for the Great American Conference Tournament. After Tuesday's game at Northeastern, OBU will head to Arkansas Tech for a best two-out-of-three series starting May 5.

Here are a few Bison tidbits heading into tomorrow's game against the Riverhawks:

  • Alex Schroeder became just third Bison player to reach 40 career homers after recording three vs. SNU. Here's the current top-three home-run hitters in OBU history: Josh Collazo (46; 2008-09), Dan Pruitt (43; 2022-current) and Schroeder (40).
  • Kade Self is the GAC leader and ranks in the top-5 nationally with 68 RBI. During the series vs. SNU, he posted a team-high seven runs batted in.
  • Trey Furrey batted .545, a team-best, against SNU and also collected two stolen bags, also most on the team.
  • Nolan Feazle was outstanding in the second game against the Storm. He tossed 4.2 innings, struck out three and didn't allow a run. Over his last five appearances, Feazle has a 1.38 ERA and given up just two earned runs in 13 innings.
  • OBU's three-game sweep of the Crimson Storm moved Head Coach Chris Cox's win total on Bison Hill to 97 games. He needs just three more to crack 100 career victories.

The Riverhawks (21-25) won two of their last three games against Newman last weekend. In their finale versus the Jets, NSU tallied 22 runs.

Here's a quick look at NSU's leaders heading into its final regular-season affair. The

C.D. White: team-leader in batting average (.365) and doubles (16).
Isaiah Keller: leads the Riverhawks with 54 RBI, 13 home runs and 20 stolen bases.
Coby Tweten: Team-high .673 slugging mark; hit a grand slam vs. OBU on April 4.

As for pitching, NSU used three pitchers in its last game vs. OBU: Ty Van Meter, Logan Stewart and Cole White.
