RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist's
Troy Shields was electric in the batter's box last week and as a result, was named Great American Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday.
It is the sophomore's first career award.
During a 3-1 week which brought victories over Southeastern Oklahoma State and East Central, the El Dorado Hills, California native batted a whopping .643 with a slugging percentage of 1.286.
He had nine total hits in 14 at-bats which included a double, a triple, two homers, eight runs driven in and seven runs scored. Shields also posted an on-base percentage of .688.
Shields started with a 2-for-2 performance against Southeastern. Both of those hits were home runs and he added two runs scored and two RBI. Then, in the very next game against East Central, Shields posted a 4-for-4 line with a double, five runs driven in and three runs scored. His four hits and five RBI against the Tigers tied his career-best marks.
With his performances over four games, Shields jumped from a .320 batting average and .560 slugging mark to a .391 BA and .719 slugging percentage.
OBU will return to the diamond on Tuesday at 5 p.m. against Northeastern State in Shawnee.
