WEATHERFORD -- Southwestern Oklahoma State tallied 13 of its 17 runs over the final five innings to down Oklahoma Baptist, 17–7, on Tuesday afternoon at the Athletic Complex in Weatherford.
The game was scoreless through two innings before SWOSU broke through in the third. A two-run homer by John Spoto ignited the Bulldogs, and Landon Meyer followed with a solo shot to make it 3–0. The fourth inning proved decisive, as Southwestern plated six runs on seven hits, highlighted by Keaton Fisher's two-run homer and a two-RBI double from Kotaro Wakui to stretch the lead to 9–0.
OBU responded in the fifth, capitalizing on patience at the plate.
Matt Marsic delivered a two-run double, and
Tui Amosa added a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 9–3. The Bison continued to chip away with two more runs in the seventh and a two-run homer from
Jacob Campbell in the eighth, trimming the margin to 10–7 and briefly creating momentum.
However, the hosts quickly slammed the door in the bottom of the eighth. Zach Makarewich crushed a three-run homer to spark a seven-run frame, while Meyer added a two-run single to cap the outburst and put the game out of reach at 17–7.
Marsic led Oklahoma Baptist offensively, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and a double, while
Ben Green added two hits and scored twice. Campbell's late home run provided a spark off the bench.
For Southwestern, Meyer paced the attack with three hits and four RBI, while Wakui and Makarewich each drove in multiple runs. The Bulldogs finished with 18 hits, including five homers.
Kael Shelite earned the win in relief for Southwestern, while
Lucas Hernandez took the loss for Oklahoma Baptist.
