Bison Ring up Sweep of Crimson Storm

BETHANY – Oklahoma Baptist (28-19, 18-15 GAC) wrapped up Great American Conference action with two wins against Southern Nazarene on Saturday. The Bison won 10-4 and 16-6. With the wins, OBU has won 21 of the last 22 against SNU.

GAME ONE

The Bison were in a tussle after three frames before scoring the last eight runs of the game.

Before OBU took command, Southern Nazarene got ahold of a 2-0 lead in the first. Dax Edmonds and Colby Entwistle each produced sacrifice flies to give the Crimson Storm their first leads of the series.

Kade Self and Dan Pruitt helped the Bison stay close though as each generated a run batted in off a homer and single, respectively.

Later, and down 4-2, Alex Schroeder helped the green and gold start their comeback. In the sixth, the junior rocked a shot to left-center field and brought the deficit to one. Then in the seventh, the Bison took the lead for good.

OBU's first five batters reached base which included four hits. Pruitt then knocked a two-run two-bagger to left and plated Isiah Lissade and Austin Gonzales. A couple batters later, Troy Shields added a two-run single to left bumping the Bison's lead to 7-4. The five-run seventh frame was then capped off by an RBI single from Trey Furrey.

The Bison's last two runs came via homers by Schroeder and Shields in the ninth. Schroeder's blast to left was his 40th career long ball, making him just one of three players (Josh Collazo & Pruitt) to attain that many in OBU history.

Also of note, Nolan Feazle was fabulous on the mound. He got the win going 4.2 innings, fanning three and allowing no runs. Feazle also induced seven fly-ball outs.

GAME TWO

Oklahoma Baptist exploded for 16 runs in the finale highlighted by six runs in the first and five in the fifth.

Leading the way were three players that recorded two hits apiece: Pruitt, Shafer and Shields. Plus, Gonzales and Self each drove in three.

Highlighting first-inning action was a two-run double by Schroeder and two-run homer from Shields. The latter of those hits made the tally 5-0.

Before OBU's five-run fifth frame, it got some good pitching from senior Jake Hamilton. He gave up one run through four innings and struck out six.

The Bison blew the door open in the fifth, pulling away for good. Furrey drew a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch before Gabe Irwin drove in Schroeder with a groundout. The excitement was capped off by Gonzales who blasted his first homer of the season, a shot to right, making the score 16-1.

Down the stretch, reliever Jordan Brewer was highly effective. He tossed the last 1.2 innings, didn't allow a run and fanned four.
