INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Oklahoma Baptist softball team is ranked in the NCAA Division II Central Regional softball rankings for the first time in program history. OBU claimed the No. 6 spot in the rankings that were released on Wednesday.
The Bison check off another box on its historic season after cracking the top 20 at No. 19 in the NFCA Coaches Poll yesterday, its highest ranking ever. OBU, 40-9 on the season, boasts the best overall and conference record (25-5) in the Great American Conference going into the weekend.
Oklahoma Baptist is one of three teams from the GAC mentioned in the release, joining Southern Arkansas and Harding, who were slotted ahead in fifth and fourth.
Central Oklahoma topped the standings, while Missouri Southern State and reigning national champion Rogers State followed in third.
Eight teams make the Central Regional Tournament, which starts with a pair of double-elimination four-team sub-regionals hosted on campus sites May 11-13. The winners of those meet the next weekend in a best-of-three series to decide the regional champion.
The national tournament field will be announced on May 9.
Eight regional winners from around the country advance to the Division II World Series, which is set for May 25-31 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
