Jones Picks up Fifth GAC Weekly Honor

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Senior pitcher Kayleigh Jones was named the Great American Conference Co-Pitcher of the week following a couple of outstanding outings against Southwestern Oklahoma State a week ago.

It is the fifth time Jones has earned the weekly nod this season and the eighth time in her career on Bison Hill.

Jones collected two wins in two appearances against the Bulldogs, leading OBU to victories by scores of 6-0 and 9-0. She didn't give up a run in 11.0 innings of work while striking out nine and walking two batters. SWOSU batted .057 while she was in the circle.

In Thursday's win, Jones twirled her 19th complete game and 10th shutout of the season. She fanned four batters without giving up a run and surrendered just one hit.

Jones returned to the pitching lane in game three, where she punched out five batters without allowing a score in 4.0 innings.

The victory was win No. 23 for Jones this season, a tie of the program record for wins in a season. In her career, Jones has 57, four away from breaking the all-time OBU mark for wins.

This season, the Claremore, Okla. native boasts a 23-5 record with a 0.76 era that ranks seventh in Division II. Jones adds the nation's most strikeouts (235), second-most shutouts (10), second-most victories (23), and third-most complete games (19).

Jones and company make their return to the diamond tomorrow at Southern Nazarene.
