ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Senior
Jake Hamilton was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Central Region Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday.
He is just the second Oklahoma Baptist player to be recognized on a regional level. During the 2019 season, outfielder Brock Carter was named as the NCBWA's Hitter of the Week.
Hamilton turned in a dominant effort against Northwestern Oklahoma State on March 4. Over the course of seven innings pitched, he struck out a career-high 14, allowed just one Rangers base runner to reach third and gave up only two hits. It was the Bison's first shutout of the season as well.
Plus, Hamilton's strikeout total was the second-most by an OBU pitcher in the D2 era and only two off the single-game high.
This season, Hamilton has posted some of the best marks in the Great American Conference: third in opposing batting average (.170); fourth in strikeouts (38) and seventh in ERA (2.59).
